In RA the immune system, for unknown reasons, attacks its own joints and surrounding tissue. I began experiencing sharp pain and stiffness in my right hand. This pain always occurs in the morning and may not go away. I thought that I hurt my hand somehow but I could not remember what I did. I would have my hand swell up to big red balloons around my knuckles and I wouldn't be able to move the hands at all.
